RESPONDING TO THE CORONAVIRUS (COVID 19)
At this time of uncertainty and anxiety, we offer love and peace.
At St Oswald's we are committed to the wellbeing of everybody, so we have put some measures in place to ensure that parishioners are safe. We will follow guidance from the government and from the Church of England (which can be found here).
Currently (15/03/20) we are taking the following steps.
-
Encouraging thorough handwashing with soap and hot water for 20 seconds.
-
Hand sanitiser will be available during worship services.
-
Reducing physical contact during services - we will use British Sign Language during The Peace, and there will be no physical contact when people are being prayed for or receiving a blessing. Chairs have been moved further apart.
-
Suspending the 'common cup'. This means that Holy Communion is received in one kind only - bread, but no wine. Hand sanitiser and latex gloves will be used by those distributing the bread.
-
The collection plate will not be passed around during the service, but a retiring offering will be taken.
-
Suspending refreshments after the service in order to reduce the risk of transmission.
-
All surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected thoroughly.
Parishioners are encouraged to consider whether attendance at church is wise at this time. Older people and those with underlying health issues should consider staying at home. We have produced a Worship at Home service, which is available to download here.
We will attempt to record the services and they will be available on the website
Please let the vicar know if you are self-isolating.
